Hospital pharmacy originally existed within the corridors of the acute unit but increasingly the demands of the modern NHS have necessitated the development of an outward looking approach by secondary care pharmacists. Whether in England/Scotland/Wales or Northern Ireland the patient’s journey and its medicines management implications has seen a sharper focus.
Funding flows across the interface can vary greatly in the four home countries, but one thing which is constant is the role of secondary care pharmacists in advising primary care colleagues on the positioning and business case for the use of premium priced new chemical entities which have patient benefit.
The future for medicines management in the local healthcare economy will reflect the significance of maintaining quality and minimising risk - no greater platform of opportunity could be created for the role of secondary care pharmacists. It is within this environment that the Pharmacy Management website will provide the medium for the exchange of best practice and sharing of productive experiences.
The first offering is a full report of the recent Pharmacy Management Seminar - "Today and Tomorrow in Hospital Pharmacy", which was held in London on 16th October 2008.
In order to view the report you will need to register with Pharmacy Management.
