Editor-in-Chief, PM Publications
Alex is our Editor-in-Chief. He is editor of our two journals, the Journal of Pharmacy Management and the Journal of Medicines Optimisation, and enjoys riding his motor-bike and playing guitar, but not at the same time. Alex is based in Yorkshire, but we do not hold that against him.
Alex commenced his career in the pharmaceutical industry. Following experience in product development/sales/product management/marketing, during which time he undertook locum work in Community Pharmacy, he joined the NHS as a hospital pharmacist. He has been a District Pharmaceutical Officer for West Birmingham, a Chief Administrative Pharmaceutical Officer for West Glamorgan/Pembrokeshire and a Regional Pharmaceutical Officer for Yorkshire. He then became Head of Medicines Management/Pharmacy in Wakefield and a national lead for the Personal Medical Services initiative with West Yorkshire Strategic Health Authority before taking up the post of Consultant in Primary Care and Medicines Management in Leeds. This involved management of the medicines services in South Leads and a medicines unit support team that provided services across the five Leeds Primary Care Trusts. This role also involved project management of the Local Improvement Finance Trust initiative to build new GP/primary care premises.
Alex has been involved with Pharmacy Management since the inception of the Journal of Pharmacy Management in 1985, becoming Editor in 2002 and overseeing the introduction of the Journal of Medicines Optimisation in 2015. Since 2008, he has increasingly undertaken event management and related work for Pharmacy Management.
