Ruari O'Connell

Ruari O'Connell qualified as a pharmacist in 1991 and worked in community pharmacy for 18 years. In 2009, Ruari became Bristol CCG's first full time practice support pharmacist and become Lead Medicines Optimisation Pharmacist in 2013. He became an Independent prescriber in 2011 and has various prescribing interests, including Men’s Health, Hypertension, Pain, Mental Health, Anticoagulation & Dermatology. He was operation director for Pipscript which delivers bespoke prescribing solutions for public health including its award-winning work on improving access to smoking cessation services for Bristol City Council. He was the Clinical Pharmacist Lead for the Academic Health Science Network’s ‘Don’t Wait to Anticoagulate’ Pilot. In 2016 he joined the NHS England GP Clinical Pharmacist Pilot as part of the first wave. Until recently he worked as the Senior Clinical Pharmacist at Frome Valley Medical Centre and currently works an independent prescriber for an online pharmacy, as a consultant on GP surgery process creation and management and as a Locum Clinical Pharmacist.
