A survey by phone of 5 major Acute Trusts would appear to answer in the negative.
Outsourcing…setting up of subsidiary companies……just two examples of attempted solutions.
Just to complete the story…some Commissioning Support Units are now actively investigating how Homecare can be used to make non PbR products available to patients which have not yet been formally commissioned by NHS England.

After nearly 20 years of working in Homecare and now working as an independent consultant I believe we are now entering possibly the most interesting period ever in homecare. Recent operational problems have caused many to consider their position and some Trusts will localise and utilise their own outsource or (insourced) pharmacies and some will now actively look at integrating other community based staff into an integrated service model. Whatever happens people will realise that the operational challenges of homecare are not easy to overcome.
