Satellite Description

It is a well known fact that people with long term mental health problems die on average up to 20 years earlier than those without a long term mental health condition (1).  This can be a combination of social and medical reasons and even because of the medication that we as healthcare professional prescribe.  Policy makers are trying to increase the focus on the physical health of our patients with such strategies as the introduction of CQUINs specifically targeting physical health monitoring.  Are we improving?  What can we do to make patients healthier?  With a focus on metabolic syndrome and diabetes this workshop will look at the potential reasons for this stark statistic and also potential strategies that may help bring some equality for patients with a mental health disorder.
