Satellite Description

Pharmacy Technicians, as healthcare professionals in their own right, play an integral and important part in the delivery of safe and effective health care for patients and the public.  They are educated and skilled, through initial and post qualification education and training, and evidence suggests Pharmacy Technicians are working in increasingly diverse areas of practice with autonomy and the need to effect ethical and professional judgement.

The profession is now commonly located within community, hospital, primary care and medical practices and there is a strong desire within healthcare polices for further role expansion of pharmacy. This is largely around the provision of patient facing services. Pharmacy technicians, as an essential part of the pharmacy workforce and team, are optimising use of their professional skills and knowledge, are taking on management responsibilities and leadership roles within pharmacies and are significantly contributing to the delivery capability and capacity, and ultimately improving patient outcomes and experience.

APTUK will be presenting an overview of the diverse and expanding roles which pharmacy technicians are delivering, working together with and complementing the pharmacist role,  across all sectors of pharmacy practice to support safe and effective person centred care.
