Satellite GP Practice Pharmacists: A new opportunity for respiratory patients
Speakers Johnathan Laird, RPS Scotland board member, works in GP practice
Satellite Description

The role of the general practice pharmacist has in recent years extended and has over time become further embedded. Within this role the respiratory pharmacist has a key part to play in the management of this patient group. I would like to take delegates on my journey and hopefully empower them along the way. This has taken me from community pharmacist to becoming an independent prescribing general practice pharmacist with an interest in respiratory. The role of the respiratory pharmacist in my experience encompasses many opportunities. These include a contribution to the multidisciplinary team by managing the medicines optimisation agenda, through targeted treatment of higher risk respiratory patients and also by leading on ‘post exacerbation’ clinics.

The general practice respiratory pharmacist is perfectly positioned to ensure the proactive care of respiratory patients is delivered in an evidence based way with excellence in mind. Conversely when things go wrong for this patient group the respiratory pharmacist should be there to support in a reactive role too.

This will be a workshop based session with the aim of inspiring and empowering delegates to begin to apply some of these advanced skills and processes.
