Speakers Patrick Wilson, Assistant Head of Pharmacy: Clinical and Operational Services, Nottingham University Hospitals
Satellite Description

In this session we will explore the impact of new medications, changing commissioning landscapes affect how we provide care to our patients.

We will look at how people working in pharmacy can keep abreast of new medicines coming to the market and some of the publications that can help us make evidence-based decisions with new medicines. We will consider the role of NICE, NHS England and local commissioners in the availability of new medicines and how they are funded. We will consider the impact of the Early Access to Medicines Scheme and compassionate schemes offered in terms of what pharmacy teams need to do to safely access new medicines. We will use specific examples with a focus on respiratory medicine to illuminate the discussion.

Useful resources for pharmacy professionals will be signposted during the session.
