Speakers Alison Warren (Consultant Pharmacist Cardiology, Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust and Brighton and Hove CCG) and Rocco Hadland (Heart failure pharmacist, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board)
Satellite Description

With an estimated 26 million patients living with heart failure worldwide numbers of admissions to hospital with heart failure have never been higher.  Survival rates remain poor with in-hospital mortality of 10% and a 1 year mortality in the region of 30%.

For patients with left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVSD) there is a pharmacological evidence base shown to reduce mortality and morbidity offering an opportunity for pharmacists to improve patient outcomes

This is a case based session that will cover:

  • The NICE guidance for the management of chronic  heart failure 2018 - due to be published in August this year
  • The pharmacological management of patients with LVSD
  • Titration and monitoring of the medicines in practice
  • The  role of the pharmacist in managing this patient group
