Mental health conditions are common – affecting 1 in 4 people. Yet people with mental health conditions will still experience stigma on the basis of their diagnosis. Poorer physical health is also linked with severe and prolonged mental health conditions. On average people with a severe mental health illness die up to 15-20 years earlier than those without. This session will cover how pharmacists can support people living with mental health conditions addressing issues such as stigma, access to services and physical health. The aim of the session is to discuss how we can achieve ‘Parity of Esteem’ where mental health is valued equally with physical health.
