Satellite Training model for foundation training across different sectors for pharmacists
Speakers Laura Doyle (Head of Pre-registration Health Education and Improvement Wales)
Satellite Description

In 2016 Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board offered 6 multi-sector pre-registration training places. The multi-sector programme involves trainees spending time in hospital, community and primary care settings. Over the course of the year 40% of the time is spent in hospital, 40% of the time is spent in community and the remaining 20% in primary care. This is run concurrently rather than sequentially. The initial programme was evaluated and overall both multi-sector trainees and tutors had positive views of the programme. During 2017-18 the multi-sector programme was expanded to two other Health Boards – Cwm Taf and Hywel Dda. The number of multi-sector trainees increased from 6 to 12. Each Health Board is running a slightly different model although proportionally the same amount of time will be spent in each sector by the trainees. The three different programmes are currently being evaluated. The programme is also being expanded in 2019 to another two Health Boards increasing the number of placements to 16.
