Satellite Paediatric Asthma & Viral Induced Wheeze
Speakers Richard Goodwin (Integrated Care Pharmacist, Evelina London Children’s Hospital and Pharmacy Lead for the Children and Young People’s Health Partnership)
Satellite Description

There is an exciting pace of change for the pharmacy profession with pharmacists pushing established boundaries never more so than in primary care and respiratory services. However, as practitioners we still are seemingly nervous about stepping into paediatric care.

I believe pharmacists are well placed to support children and young people to manage their asthma and wheeze more effectively. The old adage says ‘children are not little adults’ but with a new perspective pharmacists can prove we have a lot to give. The session aims to support and direct practitioners in developing their skills and confidence managing viral induced wheeze and asthma in children and young people, covering:

  • Differences between viral induced wheeze and asthma
  • How can we diagnosis particularly viral induced wheeze and the a role for pharmacy
  • Pearls from practice: things to consider before prescribing or dispensing inhalers for children and young people
