NHS Tayside Pharmacy service encompasses all pharmaceutical services provided in the acute hospital and primary care setting. Previously, the board provided a 12 month Dundee hospital based preregistration pharmacist training programme as part of the NHS Education Scotland Scheme. The vision of NHS Tayside is to increase the availability of the workforce to be flexible and practice across the interfaces providing locality based services in Angus, Dundee and Perth & Kinross. The following drivers informed the move to consider a modular based training programme – · Achieving Excellence in Pharmaceutical care indicating the future of portfolio roles with staff working across settings · Realistic Medicine principles informing health care delivery and pharmacotherapy services described within the GMS contract · Development of a five year undergraduate programme by Scottish Government and the schools of Pharmacy and NHS Education Scotland. Year one will be complete on 30 July 2018 and all trainees are providing positive feedback on their experiences in both their hospital and community setting. The workshop will provide an opportunity to hear about our journey over the first year from a training provider, tutor and trainee perspective. Findings from the local evaluation of training provision and challenges at week 26 and week 39 point of the programme will be shared. |
