Satellite Description

We have a big job ahead of us to ensure that we have a workforce of Pharmacy technicians able to fully meet the demands placed on it by the evolution and modernisation of Scotland’s healthcare systems.

Two of the major drivers for this are ‘Excellence in Pharmaceutical Care’ and the new GMS contract both of which have significant implications for Pharmacy teams in Scotland.

Underpinning this are the Standards for Pharmacy Professionals and the Standards for Initial Education and Training for Pharmacy Technicians issued by GPhC in May 2017.

This workshop will be an opportunity to look at what is already being taken forward at a national level with an opportunity to discuss these issues; to look at the gaps and pressures we have in meeting the requirements of ‘Achieving Excellence’ and the GP Contract; to discuss the options at national and local level for encouraging new people into pharmacy roles; and how the initial and on-going training requirements for pharmacy technicians can be met.
