Satellite The Inverness pilot - CMS serial prescribing at pace and scale – Putting my learning from CLIP into practice (2nd sitting)
Speakers Thomas Ross, Lead Pharmacist (South & Mid Division), NHS Highland
Satellite Description

This workshop will illustrate how the Inverness pilot, involving two GP practices and 14 community pharmacies, succeeded  in increasing serial prescribing both at pace and scale over a number of months. It will look at how the project met a number of the key priorities of the Achieving Excellence in Pharmaceutical Care strategy, including:

  • Improving joint working and collaboration between primary care pharmacy, community pharmacy and GP practices.
  • Encouraging partnership working between all 14 community pharmacies.
  • Demonstrating how pharmacy can improve the quality, safety and efficiency of prescribing whilst reducing GP practice workload.
  • Standardising systems and processes.
  • Informing what will be a key element of the pharmacotherapy service of the new Scottish GP Contract.
  • Working with our eHealth team to develop IT solutions.

Additionally, being a graduate of the Pharmacy Management Clinical Leadership in Pharmacy (CLIP) Programme in Scotland, I will describe how my CLIP experience and journey changed my approach to this and other projects and look at the key leadership skills that every pharmacist and technician should be looking to develop.
