Speakers Claire Rivett, Senior Clinical Pharmacist, Emergency Medicine & Hannah Beba, Senior Clinical Pharmacist, Diabetes and Endocrinology, County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust
Satellite Description

This session will focus on the role of pharmacists in diabetes management in all sectors. It will take a look at how roles can be complementary, varied and how we can work well as an integrated team. Encompassing case studies of pharmacy input in diabetes care we will look forward to sharing our ideas as well as giving you practical tips on how you can be the pharmacist every diabetes team wants and needs! We will explore latest recommendations regarding the roles of pharmacists in diabetes and offer advice on expanding your professional portfolio to target a special interest in diabetes.

This satellite doesn't directly map to the clinical pathway for competencies but will map  to the 'work and experiential learning' section  and reflection and action planning section and will explore ways to expand your professional portfolio and competencies.

Claire studied at the University of Manchester before starting her pre-registration training at the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2009 where she then commenced a rotational pharmacist post. Claire then took a secondment opportunity as a Senior Clinical Pharmacist in Emergency Medicine before establishing herself in this role permanently. In this role Claire completed her independent prescribing qualification focussing on acute and emergency adult medicine. Over the course of her career Claire has developed a special interest in diabetes and diabetes management working closely with diabetes specialist nurses and consultants. Claire is the newest member of the UKCPA Diabetes and Endocrinology group and is hoping her work in the group can highlight the role of pharmacists with special interests in diabetes.

Hannah Beba is a Senior Pharmacist for Diabetes and Endocrinology at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust. Hannah sits on the United Kingdom Clinical Pharmacy Associations Endocrine Committee, the Diabetes Clinical Advisory Group Committee for County Durham and Darlington and Chairs the Medical Pharmacists Group Committee for her NHS trust. Hannah is also a Diabetes UK Clinical Champion. This allows her to take an active role designing and shaping regional and national agendas, aiding guideline development and delivering quality education both locally and nationally.

Hannah retains a predominantly clinical role and is an independent prescriber; she is working towards becoming a consultant pharmacist. Hannah has been independently practicing in clinics for many years, laterally in diabetes/endocrine clinics across both primary and secondary care.

Hannah is interested in delivery of better integrated care for diabetic patients and recent projects have involved delivery of a specialist led diabetic clinic in primary care and an engagement project with community pharmacy.
