The aim of this session is to discuss some of the symptoms that respiratory patients may experience, whether it be related to malignant or non-malignant disease. Differential diagnoses will be considered. The session will discuss some of the pharmacological treatments that are used for the management of these symptoms and give practical tips on why and how to start these medications if medical intervention has failed within the palliative context. Underpinning evidence will be discussed as appropriate and areas where there is less evidence will be highlighted. The session will be an informative and practical guide to pharmacological management of symptomatic respiratory patients.
Biography for Helen Meynell Helen is a Consultant Pharmacist with an interest in Respiratory and Palliative Medicine at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. She is a Non-Medical Prescriber and a Faculty Fellow of the RPS, is a Committee Member of the UKCPA Respiratory Group and is Programme Guardian for the CPPE modules related to management of COPD and asthma. Helen has recently contributed to a COPD chapter to the Clinical Pharmacy and Therapeutics textbook She is clinical governance lead for the Division of Medicine across the Trust. |
