Katherine Stirling

Consultant Pharmacist for Anticoagulation and Thrombosis, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

Katherine Stirling is the Consultant Pharmacist for Anticoagulation and Thrombosis at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and has been in post since 2011. Her role covers all aspects of anticoagulation management including initiation and management of anticoagulation for in and out-patients, improving patient safety with anticoagulation, VTE prevention and treatment. In 2013 she set up DOAC clinics in the Trust for patients with AF poorly controlled on warfarin. These clinics still run but have evolved to cover any patients requiring anticoagulation with DOACs.

Katherine has provided training and education for many groups including GP and practice pharmacists in Leeds, which meant that they can now initiate and monitor DOACs for patients with AF. She is currently involved in the NHS England funded project with Leeds CCG reviewing patients with documented AF who are not anticoagulated. Her research interests include DOACs at the extremes of weight with Leeds University and barriers and enablers to DOAC initiation with her PhD student at Bradford University.
